Show Notes: Seven Questions With Pastor Kevin Hasenack
Summary: In this episode, I interview Pastor Kevin Hasenack. Kevin is the Pastor Calvary Denver in Denver, Colorado. He is originally from northern New Mexico, though he has lived in Denver for 8 years. Kevin met his wife, Jenn, at New Mexico State University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Following graduation, the Hasenacks worked with the International Mission Board in North Africa and the Middle East, before returning to attend Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, where Kevin received a Masters of Theological Studies. Kevin and Jenn have a beautiful little girl named Charlie, and they enjoy the outdoors and the “beautiful game” (aka soccer).

After having his church’s equipment stolen ten days before his Church Launch:
“It was very helpful for our church, in the very beginning to say, ‘Look, do we really need these things? No. What do we actually need? We need Christ. And that’s it. So from that point on, we said, ‘Let’s keep this very simple…There’s a couple of things that are great about that. It’s easily reproducible.’ As we train up guys we can say, ‘Look, we were able to plant this church with essentially zero equipment, a very small core team and not a lot of money. So that gives them hope to say, ‘I don’t have to have a multi-million dollar budget to do this. I don’t have to have hundreds of people at my launch service. I can do this with just the things I need – and what that really boils down to is just Jesus.”
“Your calling keeps you in the field. And if God has called you to something, no matter how hard or difficult it is, God’s the One driving, not you….When those ‘goose eggs’ come we just have to say, ‘hey, this is part of the journey that God has called us on, and we’re confident that He’s going to be faithful, and not be scared and not quit. We’re just going to be the last one standing.”

What he would do differently:
He would have spent more time with “veteran” Church Planters before planting a church, asking questions like, “Tell me what you wish you would have known?”
He would attach himself to more Pastors who have gone through it before.
He would manage his personal expectations by setting them lower, allowing himself to be amazed when God comes through in big ways.
Currently In Kevin’s “Ministry Backpack”:
Every month, he tries to read a book for fun, a book about ministry, and a book about ministry.
